Naturally, most of the games involved in these competitions involve a multiplier element, as the whole point of eSports is to interact with other players. There are so many options now available that players can play in many different tournaments and competitions. The key is to play the type of game you like the most or are the best at.
Almost all types of games are supported in esports and we found that the most popular types were first-person shooters (FPS), sports, and MMORPGs. We expect many more to be added to this list in the near future.
Currently, esports is primarily consumed and enjoyed by men, with 85% of men participating in events. Industry leaders are actively trying to encourage women’s participation and we think we’ll see progress on this as we move forward in 2017. crazy!
Where can I watch eSports?
This all sounds pretty exciting, doesn’t it? The industry is expected to continue its exponential growth in 2017 and engagement is at an all-time high due to the media platforms available. You can see eSports on many different platforms and websites. Twitch and YouTube are the most obvious, with ESPN and Yahoo also having their own dedicated esports sections. Other sites you may not have heard of are similar to Twitch and provide great content. These are Azubu and MLG, so check them out for some quality eSports streams.
The growth of eSports is such that traditional sports websites (we use ESPN above as an example) are starting to serve their content to eSports fans. That’s pretty cool and really shows us how seriously sportscasters take the esports industry. We can honestly see other media giants such as the BBC and Sky getting involved in the future and launching their own eSports brands and content. We really expect to see big developments in 2017.
In general, consumers will consume the eSports product in a way that suits them. It could be just watching or if you have a game you’re particularly adept at, you might want to enter some competitions!
