United States Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) Hosts the Much Anticipated Annual Series
Gold Eagle Co., makers of STA-BIL fuel stabilizer, founded the United States Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) to introduce lawn mower racing to the United States. They thought the sport was a good alternative to expensive types of racing like sports car and motorcycle racing. They also thought it would be good promotion for their product. They weren’t wrong. The inaugural race held in April 1992 was a huge success. Many runners participated in the event and the sport immediately captured the hearts of racing fans across the country.
Ever since then, people have been looking forward to the annual STA-BIL Lawn Mower Race Series because of the thrill and excitement it brings. The popularity of the sport led to the expansion of the United States Lawn Mower Racing Association in the form of chapters and affiliated clubs. The USLMRA has 42 local chapters and affiliate clubs nationwide. These chapters and clubs also plan and organize their own local running events.
The races take place in different states such as: Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, Louisiana, Maine, Utah, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. You must be a member to participate in any event organized by the United States Lawn Mower Racing Association. To be eligible you must be:
- At least 18 years old
- 16 and 17 year olds can register with parental consent
- Pay the minimum contribution
- In the right frame of mind
- And have an approved racing mower
Minimum membership fees are kept low so that anyone can join. Regarding modifications, there are certain rules that you must follow for each division. Your changes must comply with the rules; otherwise, you will not be allowed to run. A rulebook can be found online at USLMRA.com; USLMRA official website. A calendar of racing events and a registration form are also on the site. Once a member, you can participate in various lawn mower racing events. The different classes of mowers include;
- JP-class
- Share class
- IMOW-class
- Prepared Class
- A/P prepared
- C/P & B/P
- F/X
You might want to familiarize yourself with these before deciding which division to run in. Generally, rookies should compete in the lower divisions and progress as mower racing skills are developed.
