Wrestling With God
I am a wrestling fan. Before, I found these combat sports very violent and irritating, but I discovered later that these wrestlers exhibited certain qualities that we, Christians and all those who want to succeed, need. And they are; Stay focused and alert, self-confidence, hope, courage, perseverance, resistance and tactics. As John Cena will always say, “Never Give Up!” And current Universal Champion and my favorite Big Dog Roman Reigns says to you, “Believe that!” And then he proves it in the ring. He is one of the bravest human beings I know. These men and women really don’t give up in a fight. Even with deep pain and blood at times, they keep fighting. They still believe it won’t be over until it’s over. But I still find boxing and kickboxing too rough. I barely look at them. But we are not going to talk about wrestling or combat sports here. No. We mean wrestling, wrestling with God, and that simply means clinging faithfully and tenaciously to God’s promises and words until you see them come to pass in your life or in your situation. It is clinging to God until you receive an answer to your request. It is also refusing to take no for an answer about what you know is God’s will. There are levels you can never reach in God until you learn to “struggle” with him. It involves bringing God’s full attention to a particular situation or need, convincing him why he should do it, and clinging to him until he does what you have asked him to do. . It is certainly a very serious problem. This is why almost everyone who wrestled with God in the Bible was over a matter of life and death or fates. Wrestling with God takes strength, courage, faith, time, and patience, but if successful, the reward is always sweet, lasting, glorious, and monumental.
Let’s look at some examples of people who wrestled with God in the Bible:
Abraham
Look what happened between God and Abraham, when he was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham, upon hearing of impending divine judgment, moved into immediate action to rescue his nephew and his family from destruction. He wrestled, interceded and “wrestled” with God to achieve this. Let’s read Genesis 18:22-33, “The other two men went on to Sodom, but the Lord remained with Abraham for some time, Abraham came to him and said to him, ‘Do you want to destroy both the innocent and the guilty? “Suppose you find fifty of the innocent people out there in the city – are you still going to destroy it, and not spare it for them? Surely you wouldn’t do such a thing, destroying the innocent along with the guilty. Why? , you would treat the innocent and the guilty exactly the same! Surely you would not do that! Shouldn’t the judge of all the earth do what is right?
“And the Lord answered, ‘If I find fifty innocent people in Sodom, I will spare the whole city for their sake. Then Abraham spoke again. “Since I have begun, let me go on and speak more to my Lord, even though I am but dust and ashes. Suppose there are only forty-five, will you destroy the city for want of of five? you destroy the city for want of five? And the Lord said, ‘I will not destroy it if I find forty-five.’ So Abraham pressed his request further: “Suppose there are only forty? And the Lord answered, ‘I will not destroy it if there are forty?’ “Please don’t be angry, my lord,” Abraham begged. “Let me speak – suppose we only find thirty?” And the Lord replied, ‘I will not destroy it if there is is thirty.’ So Abraham said, “Since I have dared to speak to the Lord, let me continue – suppose there are only twenty? And the Lord said, ‘Then I will not destroy him because of twenty.’ Finally, Abraham said, “Lord, please don’t be angry; I will speak but again, suppose there are only ten?” And the Lord said, ‘Then because of the ten I will not destroy it.’ So the Lord departed when he had finished his conversation with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his tent.”
Wow! A master intercessor indeed! It was a very complex targeted intercession. It was indeed a “wrestling match”. It is unfortunate that ten righteous could not be found in all Sodom, otherwise this great intercessor would have succeeded in saving the whole city. Can we find righteous people around us today? May God help us! This should be a model for any potential intercessor. You must be patient, persistent, humble, alert, focused and articulate. Abraham persisted and fought until he was able to save his nephew Lot and his family from this destruction. It was a typical wrestling match with God. Abraham did not give up until he achieved his goal. What do you expect from God? Why did you believe in him? It’s time to make it a spiritual wrestling match. Yes. You have to fight like your whole life depends on it. And in most cases, it is. TRUE. We are at war. If you don’t win this battle, you will become a victim or injured – your life, your career, your future, your family, your destiny, your joy, your prosperity could be taken away from you forever. You must rise now and fight. You need to wake up and pray! Call those things you need that don’t exist in existence. Everything is possible! When you refuse to give up, God will not only bless you, but also make you a blessing to mankind. Please, we will continue. Share this message with others.
